In this guide, we’ll look deeper into the residential upstream Bright Data and some of the provider's technical specifics. BrightData offers an excellent option for quality residential IP addresses with a moderate to large residential pool size.

BrightData, formerly known as Luminati Networks, is a large upstream proxy provider based in Israel. It was formed in 2014. Bright Data's residential pool consists of an impressive 72M IP addresses.

Proxy Speed and Performance

We tested each residential provider so that you don't need to. Rampage endeavours to create fair, thorough, and reproducible tests to ensure each provider can be compared against another. Please note, your results may vary based on your individual factors when setting up.

Using a server hosted in a german datacenter, we tested 10,000 rotating proxies across 5 popular locations. These locations were picked to represent popular locations and give global coverage. The locations we used to test all providers were the following:

Our testing suite checks the proxy connection against IpInfo to remain as impartial as possible. We use the information collected from the request, along with IP enrichment data from IpInfo to provide a clear picture of the proxy.

In addition to the usual metrics, we have provided the standard deviation of the response times. A smaller standard deviation suggests that the scores are tightly clustered around the mean, indicating greater consistency or precision in the measurements.

Finally, this script also records the number of unique IP addresses per region tested, as this can be used as a judgement for the diversity of the IP pool. Here’s the results from the tests of Bright Data:

Location and Targeting Options

Bright Data currently supports only worldwide, country-level targeting as its location options. This is selectable via the dashboard when generating your proxies. There is currently no support for precision targeting, such as ISP/City/State with our Bright Data supply. For transparency, targeting options doubles the price of Bright Data- this would make it very difficult to provide access at the reduced cost that we do.

Rotation

Per our dashboard, these proxies can be generated in static and rotating varieties from a mix of pre-set country pools. The default session time for static proxies for Bright Data is up to 30 minutes; however, due to the dynamic nature of these proxies, we cannot guarantee the sessions are active at that time.

Bright Data is popular amongst Rampage users for its great value, quality, and versatility. It is currently available for purchase starting at $5.30 a gigabyte, dropping to $4.4 per gigabyte for those with a Rampage Retail subscription. Pros of Bright Data

Bright Data offers one of the best prices/availability in the Rampage product lineup. At its cheapest, $4.4/GB, the IP diversity and pool sizes shine bright amongst other providers, sitting at a perfect middle ground amongst our products (Rampage Residential, for example).

Whilst not the cheapest provider in the lineup, it stands miles above others, such as Packet Stream, in IP quality and availability, especially its worldwide coverage.

Cons of Bright Data

Despite such a large IP diversity, The lack of targeting due to supply costs means cannot truly geo-locatewith precision targeting methods. This makes the provider unsuitable for those who require this as part of their operations, where precision is the deal breaker when choosing a residential provider.

In addition, the pricing can put Bright Data out of the question when searching for a value provider to use a scale. Those who experience extreme bandwidth usage might find better value in other, cheaper providers at the expense of IP diversity.
